The deer moved slowly through the thick bushes, ears flicking around its head trying to detect any sudden danger or threat heading in its direction. Silence filled the area around it. Suddenly, not but a few meters away, a twig snapped, causing the deer to dart forward deeper into the forest without a glance back. Only stopping when it felt it was at a safe distance.
''I’ve got you now.''
A dark figure crouched behind the bushes nearby, and raised his bow to eye level. He drew an arrow, focusing on the deer through the criss-cross of twigs in front of him.
He was just about to let go when- CRACK.
Another snap. This time it was louder. The deer ran again, until it was completely out of sight.
The boy lowered his arrow, and looked down. He had, once again, stepped on a twig, scaring away the deer.
The boy had just about enough bad luck for one day. He gathered his arrows and slinging his pack onto his back, he started heading for home. Though he wasn't exactly sure what home was supposed to be, he did know that his current home wasn’t a place he felt comfortable in. He contemplated this while he examined the head on one of his arrows. Turning it around and around in his palm.
A strange yellow blur reflected on the metal arrowhead had caught his eye. He turned, catching another yellow streak go by in the corner of his eye. He crouched behind a nearby tree and drew an arrow, keeping still.
When he spotted movement he drew back the arrow to full strength, and aimed for what he thought had been some sort of strange animal. He shot the arrow. A loud shriek rose from the other side of the bushes, causing the boy jumped. He ran out from behind the tree and through a hole in the bushes and saw that what he had thought was an animal was actually a girl. She was hunched over hands covering her head in terror, his arrow had flew right over her head and planted itself deep into the tree trunk behind the girl.
He stood there in a daze and watched. He could see that she was about his age, with a long, untidy hair in a braid that hung down to her waist. She had been holding a knapsack, the contents of which had spilt onto the floor, revealing an assortment of food and clothes. She lowered her hands cautiously and looked at the boy in front of her, her eyes then fell to the bow still in his hand.
''What do you think you’re doing??!'' She said, outraged.
The boy didn’t answer. She started to pick up her items off of the ground, anger still clearly visible on her face.
The boy, feeling bad for what he had done, tried to help. ''Here, let me help you.'' He said, reaching for the food still on the ground. The girl grabbed his wrist and pushed it away.
''No, I can do it. Just leave me alone!''
The boy was taken aback. She had obviously been through something horrid.
''What are you doing sneaking around in the forest, anyway?'' He answered, his tone darkening.
''None of your business.'' She said, and having collected all her belongings, she stalked past the boy and continued on her way.
The boy stopped her again. “Of course it’s my business. I could have killed you. Do you know how dangerous it is to be walking around alone in a forest like this-''
The boy was taken by surprise at the colour of her eyes, one was silver and the other was gold. They were unlike anything he’s ever seen before. He took a good look at her; she was wearing a red tank top, and a pair of jeans. Her hair was long and golden. He ran his fingers through his short messy black hair, trying to get his bangs out of his eyes so he could stare at her and take her all in.
“Alone in a forest like this, what? Tell me what you were going to say, because I’m a girl? I hate boys that think girls always need to be protected!” She said with just enough venom in her voice. He snapped out of his daze.
“I wasn’t going to say that.” He snapped. “I just want to know why you’re here. You’re on my father’s land after all, so technically you’re trespassing.” He said coldly as he put his pack back on his back. “And maybe you shouldn’t judge me so quickly.” He said as he started to walk away, he just about had enough of her angry outburst.
The girl started to follow him. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to trespass on your land, I just wanted to get far away from ho-I mean I just had to get away. Point me to the nearness road and I’ll leave.”
The boy just stopped and just stood there, arms crossed. The girl was starting to get impatient.
''What’s wrong with you, can't you see I'm in a hurry?'' She tried to make her way around him but he spoke again.
''Where are you going anyways?'' He asked in an angry tone.
The girl didn't waste any time answering. ''I'm running away.''
''From what?''
''Home,'' she spat.
''Why?''
''Why do you ask so many questions? I thought you wanted me out of here!''
"I never said-I mean can't you just sit down for a minute and talk?" He said with the hint of frustration in his voice.
''I can't, I have to go.''
"I mean....you’re already away from home aren't you? So doesn't that mean you've already successfully ran AWAY!"
''You don't understand they’ll be looking for me! ‘’ She sounded distressed.
The boy thought about her predicament for a minute. "You can hide out in my barn if you like." He said. "Then maybe you could tell me why you need to run away so badly?"
The girl hesitated. ''Who are you anyway?''
The boy went silent. "The names Noel and you”?
''Luna.'' She said.
"Alright Luna, now will you take me up on my offer, even though you hate guys like me who feel like they always have to rescue a girl in distress?" He said forcing a smile on his face.
''I don't need your help.'' She said as she turned and ran into a tree.
Noel chuckled under his breath. "Are you still sure you don't need my help?" He asked, as he walked gracefully over to her side. He put his hand on her shoulder and spun her around to see if she was alright. "Are you ok?" He asked her. He noticed a bruise starting to form on her forehead.
“Can you just leave me alone?” She said as she pulled away from his grasp and started to run. Noel stood there not knowing what to do, she had this aura about her, one that he wasn’t use to. He eyes, where could he start about her eyes he was convinced that no one else had them. This was his first time ever really interacting with other people on the outside world it’s always been him and his father but something about her compelled him to her. Before he knew what he was even thinking, he was running after her his legs carrying him towards her.
He ran to catch up to her, feet softly padding on the dirt road, the soft breeze twisting through his hair. She soon arrived into view, and he strode up behind her. “Well if you’re running away, you’re going to need some more food to bring with you!"
She peered at him over her shoulder "I suppose you're right."
“Look, I'm not all that bad," he grinned, "Just visit for a few minutes at least."
Noel led the way through the forest, Luna reluctantly following behind him. She knew that he wasn’t such a bad guy, but something about him seemed off. He was just so…odd she thought. Noel looked at her from the corner of his eye, she noted to herself that his eyes were green, she looked away quickly slightly embarrassed that their eyes met. “So how far is it from here to your father’s house?” She asked trying to make the mood not so tense. Noel looked straight ahead.
“I don’t know but it will take us roughly ten, maybe fifteen minutes.” He said and then pointed in the direction of two very oddly shaped trees. “That’s where were heading.” He said “Beyond those two trees there will be a clearing with my house.”
Once they got to the clearing, Luna could see his house and beside the house there was a barn. Noel then rushed past her. “Come on we better hurry if you want to go on your way.”
Noel pushed open a large wooden door. Luna jumped at the sound of the loud creak it made.
''So, this is where you live?''
Noel didn't answer. He led the way inside, casually holding the door open behind him to let Luna in after him. She observed the inside of the barn. There were no lamps; the large barn was filled with natural light, pouring in from the glass-less windows along the wooden ceiling. There wasn't much to take in. Hay littered the dirt floor and large haystacks lined the side walls.
Noel walked over to a door at the side of the barn. He took out a small key from his pocket and opened it. Inside, cans of food lined the shelves of the small pantry-like room, each of which was covered in dust. He picked up one of the cans and observed it closely before giving it to Luna.
“This should be enough for about a week.”
He said as she took the can from him.
''Thanks.'' She said as she tucked the can in her bag. That's it? She thought.
Noel flipped his hair out of his eyes, and studied Luna’s expression. He was drawn to this girl for some reason, and something inside of him made him want to protect her. His father has always told him that helping others only makes you look vulnerable, but Noel had never understood this concept.
Luna looked up from the can and noticed Noel’s gaze upon her. She quickly looked a way. She was never so close to humans before, at least not normal humans. And she feared that he might figure out that there was something up with her if she stayed with him any longer.
“So if you don’t mind I’ll be on my way.” She said as she looked for an exit.
Noel stared at her for a bit longer and then looked away. “If you must be in such a rush the door is over there.” He said coldly as he pointed to the other side of the room.
Luna’s eyes followed where he pointed and started walk towards that direction, she stopped once her hand gently bushed against the door knob. “I don’t understand why you keep acting so cold towards me, but your generosity is appreciated. But I must warn you, if anyone comes looking for me here….you must not tell them you’ve seen me, or you and your father will be in danger.”
Noel wanted to ask her why? Who or what she was running from? And why did she find the need to warn him about it; they’ve been far from nice to each ever since they’ve met, but he knew any questions he had would be left unanswered or start an argument. As he watched the wooden door shut behind her, he felt a cold chill run down his back that was soon replaced with a longing feeling; he needed to follow her.

.004 Samson
The golden morning sun washed a yellow glow over the valley surrounding the kingdom. These mornings were usually a peaceful time of day, enjoyed by the many
Children that inhabited the village. Among them was Luna, a child unlike the others. She was kind, bright, and had an undying interest in the way things worked. She wandered around the garden with the other small children, collecting flowers and other interesting things they found, while Apollo kept a close eye on her.
''Come inside, dear, and let the children play.'' his wife, Artemis called to him
''I know how you feel, I think about him everyday too, but we must not dwell on the past.''
''Yes. But it would give me great pain to see our daughter kidnapped as well. There's no risk in watching over her.'' Apollo said.
Artemis sighed deeply. ''You've got to understand that life needs to take its own course, no matter what, Luna will always be safe as long as she's inside the village. ''
Apollo hesitated in the doorway, and then reluctantly closed the door, finally letting his sights off his daughter.
As night began to fall, Luna watched from the porch of her house as her mother stood in the middle of the garden and started to make the moon rise up into the sky. As if her mother could sense Luna’s glaze upon her she turned her head to look back at her daughter.
“Luna, oh sweet Luna, come over here for a second.”
Her mother called out. Luna was hesitant at first but then ran to her mother over all the flowers fireflies hovered over her as if they wanted to light her way. Her mother’s eyes glowed in the dark, and Luna often thought that her mother was beautiful. When she reached Artemis the fireflies scattered and went up in the sky and became stars. Luna smiled up at then, and whispered “Thank You” to them.
Artemis smiled back at her daughter. “Thanks you for lighting up the sky for me dear.”
Luna looked down at her hands slightly embarrassed. Artemis put her focus back on the moon, still trying to make it go as high up in the sky as she could. “I called you over here because I thought that you would like to help me with the moon.” She said as she looked back down at Luna. Luna’s head snapped back up to look at her mom.
“Really?!” She said with the hint of excitement in her voice.
“Really.” Artemis said as she kept one hand in the air to keep the moon still as she let her other hand signal Luna to go in front of her.
“Now Luna what I want you to do is concentrate. Put your hands out and try to visualize the moon in your hands. Once you feel it tell me, and I will let it go.”
Luna was slightly afraid of the idea. “What if…what if I can’t keep a hold of it…”
Artemis cut her off. “I know you can do it, try to keep all those negative thoughts out of your head. “
Luna closed her eyes and envisioned herself holding the moon in her hands. Her mother smiled, and slowly let go of the moon. Luna opened her eyes, and saw before her, the moon suspended up in the sky by her own hands.
''I did i t!'' She said excitedly.
Artemis laughed.
She helped her daughter with the final steps and then ushered her inside. Luna bounced gleefully towards her room.
After several bedtime stories, Luna was half asleep.
'' Just one more, mother, please?''
Artemis hesitated. And then she remembered a story that would be perfect right now.
''Luna, I think you're old enough to know about a secret that your father and I have kept for the last 6 years.''
Luna's eyes widened in curiosity.
''When you were born, you had a brother one perfectly identical to yourself in every way.''
Luna didn't respond. So Artemis continued.
'' He was born right before you were. You were both so small and fragile..''
''What happened to him?'' Luna interrupted.
''He was...taken away. And we never saw him again.''
Artemis responded.
''By who?''
''He was carried by the wind, a curse. Every day since that day, your father and I have missed thought about him, how he would have grown up with us. With you.''
Luna thought about this, she would have had a brother, and older brother, one her age. She then wondered what he would be like, would he like her to be around him, would they fight, and argue who would get the last cookie? Would he comfort her when she was sad, or upset? Would he stand up for her if the other children teased her? Then another thought came to her mind…
“Mother, what was his name, what was my brother’s name?”
Artemis was startled by Luna’s question, it caught her off guard the thought of her missing son re-opened her almost healed wounds. Tears started to form.
“His name was Samson.” She said almost in a whisper.
“Samson.” She repeated. “Do you believe he’s still alive mother?”
Artemis looked at her daughter sadly, and shook her head no. She saw the hope leave Luna’s eyes. Artemis then got up and kissed Luna on the forehead.
“Enough about this, it’s getting late and you should be sleeping.” She said as she turned and walked towards the door.
“Mother…” Luna said softly.
Artemis stopped and turned. “Yes Luna?”
“I love you, and I believe you’re wrong about Samson, I feel like he’s still out there I just know it, I feel him in here.” Luna said as she pointed towards her heart. “And sometimes I can hear a boys voice in my head, and now that you told me that I use to have a brother…I just know it has to be-“
“That’s enough Luna, I have accepted that Samson is gone, and I do not wish to talk about him again.” Artemis said as tears ran down her face, she hurried to the door. “I love you Luna, and I don’t want anything to happen to you I would be lost without you.” And with that Artemis closed the door behind her leaving Luna alone in the dark with only her thoughts about her brother drifting in her head like clouds trying to cover the sun.

.003 Black Smoke
Artemis gazed upon her newborn's laughing faces. She felt as if the god and goddess before her were watching over her now completed family.
“So my dear goddess of the moon, have you decided what we shall name our children.”
Artemis heisted. “I…you’ll laugh.” She whispered with a guilty smile.
“No I won’t.” He said with sincerely in his voice. As he lifted his son out of his wife’s arm. He smiled down at him, as the boy slept in his arms.
“I was thinking…” She looked back down at her daughter. “Well it’s my own little guilty pleasure I always wanted to name my child after the moon.” She said as she glanced up into her husband’s eyes.
“I want to name her Luna Celena Sirius” She said. Apollo handed the boy back as he picked up Luna in his arms.
“Luna Celena Sirius, what a beautiful name.” He said tears of joy filling his eyes. “And our son?” He asked still focused on Luna.
Artemis thought about it for a second. She chuckled softly “Samson Ethan Sirius”
Samson opened his tired eyes and looked up at his mother's face. Suddenly, Apollo looked up at the sky, a worried expression on his face.
Artemis knew right away that there was something wrong.
''What's wrong?'' She asked.
Apollo kept his gaze on the twilight sky. Artemis followed his gaze. A dark swirl of black clouds headed towards them, engulfing everything in their path by shadow.
''Keep the children safe.'' Apollo told his wife.
Artemis hugged her newborns close to her and turned to run. A violent wind ripped Samson from her arms. She cried out to him as he was carried by the dark clouds.
Apollo and Artemis watched helplessly as their son was engulfed by black smoke, and then it all dissolved into nothingness.
“So my dear goddess of the moon, have you decided what we shall name our children.”

.002 Dark Decisions
He Apollo’s brother paced the length of the maroon-carpeted corridor inside his mansion. Thoughts about his brother and his new found happiness struck at his mind like the stinging of hundreds of insects. He descended the spiral staircase that led down underground. A dark shadow appeared beside him as he walked. He recognized it at once, and without turning his head, spoke with coldness in his voice
''Usha.'' He said. '' I am not in the mood for the company of others''
Usha scowled at him, her black eyes cold.
"So you heard.
The man stopped. He turned to face Usha.
''An unfortunate incident. He doesn’t deserve any of it.''
Usha murmured something that he could not make out.
"Indeed it is quite a misfortune." She said almost in a whisper.
"But you do understand...that you have one more possibility left?"
Dracul's expression turned curious.
''And what is that?''
Usha was silent for a moment. When she spoke, she spoke in a quiet voice.
''If you gain possession of the children.''
Dracul's eyebrows narrowed.
''Don't fool around with me, you know that that's impossible.''
But Usha held a grin on her old wrinkled face.
''I can help you.''
''Artemis and Apollo’s children will be the most sacred and protected treasures in the whole kingdom.''
Usha hissed at Dracul.“You don’t think I know that?!”
Dracul could see the anger in Usha’s eyes, she reminded him of a fierce she-wolf that was eating its prey ripping it limb for limb.
“You can either take my help and listen to what I have seen or can forever be cursed to live the life you are living now, always one step behind your brother ceaselessly stuck in his shadow.”
Dracul saw the anger wash away from her face, as she then turned and walked away, waving her hand in the air.
“The choice is yours dear Lord. You know where I’ll be.”
Dracul watched as she walked gracefully away. She’s toying with me. He thought.
“Wait…” He said.
Usha grinned but kept walking.
Dracul wasn't one to accept the help of others, but this time his greed for revenge proved itself more important than his pride.
''I want you to help me.''
Usha stopped, her grin widening. ''Very well. However, I do require something in return.''
*Dracul took a moment to ponder this thought. ''Alright.''
Usha led Dracul towards the end of the dark corridor, where the only light came from lit torches that were placed so far apart from each other on the wall that they seemed to be emitting barely any light at all. Usha had no trouble navigating the hallway. She suddenly stopped, and opened a door to the right with a small black key.
She held the door for Dracul, who took his time while entering the large room.
He had been here before. Vials of mysterious liquids and substances lined the long shelves along the walls. And in the middle stood a large black cauldron.
Usha went over to the cauldron, and muttered a few inaudible words. Dracul stood beside her.
''Perhaps two children are too much...'' Usha said.
Dracul looked up. ''What do you mean?''
''Taking two children will send the whole kingdom after you. Taking just one...''
''One is perfect.'' Dracul finished.
Usha smiled. She poured a vial of black liquid into the cauldron and waved her hand over the rising black smoke.
The smoke began to grow, until it formed deadly black clouds swirling around above the cauldron. Usha muttered some more words, and the smoke began to dissapear.
She spoke once the room was clear of smoke.
''Now, for my end of the deal.''
''Usha.'' He said. '' I am not in the mood for the company of others''
Usha scowled at him, her black eyes cold.

.001 The Beginning
It was a beautiful starry night, a night like any other. But as the night progressed the stars were soon covered by drifting clouds. This night was suppose to be an incredibly special night, or at least it was suppose to be...it was as if the night sky knew that this night was going to turn into a night people would remember, or at least for this one family.
He was a man of great power, a man that hated to see his brother Apollo a king. He watched through the castle window as two screams from babies were heard. They were being held by his sister-in-law Artemis she was truly beautiful, and her eyes had a silvery glow to them, they were truly amazing. He glared back at his brother hoping that his eyes could burn Apollo where he stood. This man did not deserve any of this happiness, nor did he deserve Artemis and now these two children. He deserved to suffer as he himself had suffered what he had been put through because of him!
Apollo's golden eyes wandered across the room to the window. At first he thought he saw someone there, but it could have been his imagination. He walked closer to his wife, and kissed her forehead.
"They are so beautiful, just like you."
She gave him a tired smile.
"Oh darling no need to flatter me. But yes they are beautiful!"
Apollo smiled back at her, and brushed his hand against her cheek.
"What shall we name them?"
Artemis thought hard about this. She looked at the twins, their face identical, but hair colours quite different. Her daughter with golden hair and her son black like hers. They opened their eyes up at the same time, the little baby girl smiling up at her. She noticed that they both had two different coloured eyes.
The girl her left eye was gold, and her right was silver. And for the boy his left eye was silver and his right eye gold. She looks at them, surprised at first.
"What's wrong?" Apollo asked a little startled.
She looked up at him, surprised at first and she couldn’t help but smile again.
"They have our eyes."
